We ask that delegates adhere to the following guidelines for appropriate dress during formal debate. Non-compliance may result in censure and removal from the Chamber at the Speaker’s discretion.

Men: Jacket and tie are required for all male members of provincial parliament. Blazers, sport coats, sweaters and vests are also appropriate. Suit pants or dress pants (khaki, flannel, corduroy) and dress shoes are expected, and accessories should be kept to a minimum.

Ladies: In addition to appearing professional, it is important to mind your own preferences and be comfortable in what you wear. A suitable outfit for a female member of provincial parliament may include a coordinated pant suit, dress shirt and modest dress shoes. The heel on a dress shoe should measure no more than two inches, and the shoe itself must be closed-toe. Blouses, sweaters, cardigans, vests, and skirts are also permitted, however, shoulders must be covered and skirt hems must not be shorter than two inches above the knee. Pantyhose or knee-high nylons are recommended, while accessories should not be excessive, and hairstyles not overly done.
