Students Occupy Queen’s Park

Inaugural Session of Youth Parliament hosted at Queen’s Park: February 10 – 12
TORONTO, CANADA, Jan. 21, 2010 — Students from across Canada will convene for three days of debate at Queen’s Park, February 10 – 12, 2010, during the Inaugural Session of the University of Toronto Model Parliament.
“This is a historic moment for young Canadians,” says Michael Motala, Chair of UTMP’s Board of Directors. “With federal parliament prorogued, students across the country feel that Canadian democracy is under attack – we are certain big ideas will converge during debate in this unique forum.”
Participants will be joined by Canadian luminaries including the Hon. Bill Graham, Peter MacLeod, Steven LeDrew, Cynthia Wesley-Esquimax and Deborah Deller in seminars while out of session.
Founded in 2008, the University of Toronto Model Parliament is a student-led, not-for-profit, non-partisan organization housed at Trinity College. Through its affiliation with other University of Toronto groups – Connecting Minds, The Policy Exchange, and the Public Policy Research Initiative – it gives participants an opportunity to engage in public policy research and publication.
Registration for the Inaugural Session is open until February 1st. In partnership with the Churchill Society for the Advancement of Parliamentary Democracy, UTMP offers 25 full bursaries for delegates in financial need. Canadian youth age 14 – 29 are encouraged to register online – utmodelparliament.org
